See my blog at mantic59.blogspot.com . Information and instruction on how to shave with a single-bladed safety razor (like an old double-edge Gillette or single edge Schick Injector). This is a refresh of a previous two-part video of mine.

I started of with a rotary and it was crap cus it just left me with stubble then I bought a gillete fusion and that just gave me razor burn and my hair is a lot harder to deal with cus it’s afro.and finally I got a single bladed razor and I lived happily ever after ……THE END : )
@mantic59 i meant to also ask would it be ok to keep shaving against the grain when i make the switch?Thank you.
@mantic59 i have a question. What if you are already used to shaving against the grain with a mach 3 or quatro, and have been doing this for at least 5 years.i also do my head the same against grain to be super close .when i make the switch to wet shaving will i encounter any problems or should i be ok. i would say my neck hair is coarse and i have fair skin. that being the reason i already go against the grain. great videos!!
Best shave in the world. I use either a two way or “Four Way Shave” (google it) and my razor is a 1980 Schick Injector because it’s the closest thing to a straight razor shave you can get from a safety razor. Cheaper, better shave and better for the environment (not throwing plastic in the land fill every week). The cartidge razors are the biggest rip off and over priced bunch of crap ever. 7 Schick injector blades last me about 2-3 weeks per blade and I have a med/heavy beard. Buy on ebay.
@metalliholic86 Myself and many others went with the 38c and I absolute love it. You can’t go wrong with it.
Wow, after watching these tutrial videos you have put up, I am going to be switching from my Mach 3 turbo! I’m not impressed with the closeness of the shave I get, and think I’ll go with one of the Merkur razors. Can anyone recommend a good model to start with? I’d appreciate it. Thinking of either the Merkur Classic Safety Razor, Straight – #178, or maybe the Merkur Hd Classic “barber Pole” Long Safety Razor-#38c. Any feedback appreciated!
You, sir, are a shaving expert. I have watched many of your videos several times. I got myself a Boar Bristle brush ($7.99) from a local store, and a bar of Williams Mug Shaving Soap. Right now I’m using Bic Sensitive Single blade disposables, but I am looking on Ebay for a Gillette Safety Razor. Thanks! I used to be a horrible shaver and would leave razor burn on my face constantly. Those days are now behind me.
Damn, That Looks So Relaxing!
I felt really good watching this video (>_^)
Good Work Man, Keep It Up !!!
finnsia- with proper beard reduction techniques most people can eventually shave against the grain.
That’s a problem I dont run into anymore. hot water works pretty well along with vigorous shaking against the sink, but using a safety razor works better
Thanks for the help though I still have a question.
I was planning to go to a antique market.
Therefore i’m likely (if I buy it) not be able to return it to the seller so it’s best to not make mistakes in the first place.
So other than looking for h-2 or g-2 is there anything else that I should find easily?
Since if I find a really old merkeur or gillete, then I would gladly buy it but surely there are many counterfeit ones since they are so famous.
If you flip the safety razor head down you’ll see serials, such as h-2 or g-2 and you can contact many collectors who would be happy to help you determine the age and model based on advertising photos, serials, et cetera. my straight razor was authenticated as the company went out of business many years ago plus the type of steel, design and handle construction. the key is being smarter than the person selling you the goods. hope that helps.
I’d prefer not to. Too much hassle. Especially not a good idea when buying my first one since I don’t know what I prefer yet and having to buy and return constantly isn’t a good idea (onlin) either and it will surely get me into trouble.
Well, not really but it’s possible that they won’t come back but it just would cost too much in shipping.
In other words, I’d prefer not to due to the money that could be lost.
Like in not being able to return a shaver.
Could you buy one online?
But what if I were going to go to an antique shop, how would I know that the razor is real and not a fake?
They probably are great a long with the gillette one’s (the saftey razors)
Mantic spoke about them but razor shops are VERY hard to find and antique one’s become the only option.
There are shops though however I only found one and it had razors that were extremely expensive and they only had the explensive merkeur razor (for $200) The very bulky one.
I envy you so much!
I’ve been wanting to move to Canada (Vancouver or Calgary) for years now. I’m hoping to move out there sometime within the next decade.
Anyway, take a look at Merkur razors, they are meant to be very good. I’m hopefully getting the Merkur 38C with Proraso shaving cream and a badger shaving brush.
It works out at about £50 delivered which is probably what I’m spending a year on Gillette blades anyway! The razors for the Merkur are very cheap, about £4 for 30.
Hmm, how do I know they are not fakes?
How do YOU know they are not fakes?
I’m actually in Canada for the moment. There isn’t a better place to be during the winter. And I won’t be in the UK for a long time from now. Not even in a decade.
if you hit up some antique shops you can find safety razors already ready to go. I picked up 2 gillette razors (1962 adjustable RAC 065 and the fatboy) for no more than 17 bucks. also grabbed a 85 year old Imperial straight razor up (just needs honing). I used pearsons at first as i was scared out of my mind, but now use mint vintage Rotbart Extra Dunn blades. Blades can be found at drug stores in the US and even wal marts (pearsons and sometimes you can find gillette silver series)
I have a Gillette Mach 3 and I have the same problem. It’s because it’s a multiple blade razor which traps the hairs between the blades, thus making it harder to clean.
I’ve asked for a proper single bladed razor, soap, blades and brush for Christmas. I noticed you’re from the UK too so feel free to msg me and I’ll show you what I’ll be getting to replace the crappy Gillette razors that I’ve been using.
There is no comment on my page.
I wasn’t able to reply for some reason so I left the comment on your front page.
What?
